It's time to close down existing power plants, get rid of all nuclear weapons, and to develop an internationally cooperative and comprehensive plan to contain the existing nuclear waste. Of course, the Obama administration that looks more and more like a governmental albatross, not that the Republicans are any better, wants to keep building nuclear power plants even in the wake of the Japanese disaster. Keep in mind that this is the same administration that allowed monumental amounts of dispersants of unknown effects to be dumped into the Gulf of Mexico. This administration is poor regarding peace and the economy, and terrible on the environment. Unfortunately, that means it may take another generation to bring common sense environmental rules into practice.

Copyright 2009 - 2011, Party of Commons TM

The Corporate Environmental Catastrophe

On March 1, when we last wrote on this blog about the corporate polluting of the waterways, little did we know that the corporate nemesis would turn real bad policy on their part into an outright catastrophe. The BP oil company, virtually unregulated by Uncle Sam, and acting as the practical government of the Gulf of Mexico, ignored problems and took huge environmental risks in order to save a relative small amount of money, and have now ruined the entire Gulf through a massive and ongoing offshore oil runoff. The Environmental Protection Agency (E.P.A.) made matters worst by allowing BP to use some of the most toxic chemical dispersant available in huge quantums. Instead of allowing the runoff oil to naturally coagulate so it stays on the water surface, thereby making it easier to skim off and clean up, the dispersant makes the oil sink to the bottom where it is more likely to harm the Gulf aquatic species, along with the dispersant itself. Moreover, the dangerous dispersant may eventually spread to other channels of water by way of the Gulf stream. Both the E.P.A. and BP have made a mess of the Gulf. It is time for the Obama administration to seize BP's assets, kick them out of the Gulf of Mexico and out of the nation, and start stringently regulating the corporate nemeses that are causing havoc to our environment and our economy.

The Party of Commons does not sponsor or produce advertising.

Copyright 2009 - 2010, Party of Commons TM

The Corporate Nemesis Pollutes Waterways

Unbelievably, as if they don't drink water (although some buy specialized water), the corporate nemesis has been skirting Environmental Protection Agency rules and polluting our nation's waterways, which inevitably affect drinking water supplies in large parts of the nation. Some judges on the U.S. Supreme Court have been aiding them with dubious rulings and allowing these corporations to effectively escape prosecution. Polluted drinking water is already a public health crisis in America that can only get worst without effective enforcement by the E.P.A. and the Attorney General's office. A bill called the "Clean Water Restoration Act" would rectify the situation of the corporate nemesis being able to use "navigable water" technicalities so that they can pollute the waterways at will. Please, call your senator and congressperson and tell them to get this bill passed.

The Party of Commons does not sponsor or produce advertising.

Copyright 2009 - 2010, Party of Commons TM

Depleted Uranium Munitions should be Outlawed

The international community has long had Conventions that have outlawed biological and chemical weapons, so how come Uncle Sam's high military command gets away with using depleted uranium munitions, which would seem to go under the ban on chemical weapons? These munitions that have been used in wars for the last generation have been responsible for severe illnesses, including birth defects and deformities, in civilian populations, and may have affected our personnel as well. When Cynthia McKinney was in Congress, she was one of the handful in national government that was concerned about this problem and addressed it, but the thanks she got was being booted out of Congress with the approval of the Pelosi regime in the House of Representatives. McKinney was also consistently maligned by the corporate mainstream news media. Dave Reichert, one of the most ablest and astute members of Congress. Mark Greene received a specially addressed letter from Congressman Reichert as the congressman wrote about his commendable vote for the ongoing "cap and trade" bill legislation (H.R. 2454).

Congressman Reichert said that the bill as passed by the House was not perfect, but he wrote, in part, as follows: "This comprehensive bill includes new tax incentives, grants, loans, and other aid to speed the development and adoption of new clean energy technologies and to encourage cost-saving, energy efficiency improvements for families and businesses."

The congressman from the Eighth Congressional District also said that he is trying to ensure that the vast majority of the revenue from this bill goes back directly to the people. Mark has supported Congressman Reichert in this effort, as he has also supported Reichert's Pratt River/Alpine Lakes Wilderness Area bill, which would designate these areas, in whole, as federally protected.

Mark and Dave Reichert are two of the leading environmentalists in Washington state, along with environmental activist Michael McGinn and Seattle Mayor Greg Nickles, among others.

[First posted on "Commoner" on 7/19/09; revised on 7/21/09.]

Copyright 2009, Party of Commons TM

"Green" Political Prisoners in America

[revised on 5/6/09]

In bizarre, sick, Orwellian fashion, Uncle Sam's state apparatus that actually does kill and torture innocent people around the world through unmanned drones, general negligence and outright malice, and props up brutal, extremist countries with money and military assistance, has the gall to call radical environmentalists, some of whom have basically committed non-violent property crimes, terrorists. Apparently barely noticing the many dreadful Hitler-ite factions and groups in the United States, the F.B.I. has even singled out these environmentalists and animal liberationists as the major domestic threat. The idea of the government lumping together environmentalists and animal liberationists with the likes of a real terrorist like Osama bin Laden is amazing, disturbing and disgusting. Briana Waters, who proclaimed her innocence, was convicted in Washington state and thrown in prison, as were other recently convicted environmentalists in Oregon, all who received long, draconian prison sentences.

These environmentalists tried to call attention to serious ecological problems in our nation through non-violent acts, whether criminal or not, and although the Party of Commons does not condone vandalism, arson, or any criminality, we think the sentences handed down by the government were draconian for non-violent property crimes, and thus the presently imprisoned are political prisoners. As for the designation of "terrorist" by the government for environmental and animal liberation groups who profess non-violence and have not harmed anyone, this is obviously an Orwellian political tool used to suppress political thoughts and action. We urge our readers to write President Obama and ask him to pardon Briana Waters and the group convicted in Oregon, or at least to commute their sentences, as the Party of Commons will be writing, too. We will publish the names of those convicted in Oregon in a post-script as soon as we finish our research.

Post-script:
Please, see the article by Stephen Lendman, entitled "Green Scare State Terrorism," in the comments section, published here through the Fair Use Doctrine, Title 17.

P.P.S.:

Names of convicted environmentalists or animal liberationists: Please, write to President Obama and ask him to either pardon or commute the sentences of the following political prisoners:

Briana Waters

Darren Thurston

Chelsea Gerlach

Suzanne "India" Savoie

Daniel McGowan

Stanislas Meyerhoff

Joyanna Lynn Zachler

Nathan Block

Sarah Harvey (Tankersley)

Kevin Tubbs

Jonathan Paul

Lacey Phillabaum

Jennifer Kolar

Copyright 2009, Party of Commons TM

"Evergreen" Prologue

Welcome to the first post on "Evergreen," a new blog from the Party of Commons that will concentrate on the environment and ecological matters overall, and on politics in the Pacific Northwest: Alaska, Idaho, Oregon, and particularly, Washington, where the headquarters of our party is located. As always, we will stay true to our motto: Progress, Tradition and Ecology. Although, there will be a lot about the environment on "Evergreen," our essays, political analyses and viewpoints, will have varied subjects. There will be no set timetable for publishing essays, but we expect to publish mostly on the weekends for "Evergreen."
